GI Logos

GI is an indication or sign which identifies goods originating or manufactured in a particular region, territory or locality of a state or country.

The quality, reputation or other characteristic of such goods is essentially attributable to its geographical origin and is influenced by factors like the soil, climate, temperature, skills and creativity of the people in the region.

In India, GIs are governed by the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act 1999. It came into force in year 2003 and was recently amended in 2020
